Job Description:

About San Diego BioMedSan Diego BioMed (SDB) is a nonprofit biomedical research institute located in San Diego, California. The mission of SDB is to conduct fundamental biomedical research to better understand human disease and to use this information to contribute to the treatment and prevention of diabetes, cancer, neurological disease, HIV infection, asthma and respiratory allergies, and complications of chronic diseases. The Principal Investigators at SDB are accomplished scientists, recognized in their areas of expertise. Our labs are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. SDB is in the heart of San Diego's science park area, which is part of the largest and most concentrated centers of science, engineering, and medicine in the United States. Further information on SDB can be found at .Position OverviewThe Immunogenomics Lab in Chronic Respiratory Diseases at San Diego BioMed, led by Dr. Seumois, is seeking a passionate and driven Postdoctoral Fellow to join his research team. The Seumois Lab focuses on understanding immune cell diversity and function in the context of asthma and allergic diseases, with a special emphasis on novel CD4 T cell subsets characterized by strong type 1 Interferon response, called THIFNR cells (Seumois et al. Sc. Immunol., 2020). The position involves using both in vivo pre-clinical models of asthma and primary human cell culture assays to better characterize these THIFNR cells as well as elucidate their function and ontogeny. Our research utilizes cutting-edge genomic and functional techniques such as single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), scATAC-seq, scTCR-seq, CRISPR, and advanced flow cytometry to investigate disease biology.Key Objectives:

  • Develop creative tools to investigate the function of THIFNR cells using in vivo models of Asthma (NIH-R01AI163665).
  • Develop creative tools to investigate in vitro models using primary human immune cells to validate THIFNR cells function and investigate their lineage commitment and molecular heterogeneity (NIH-R21AI173884).Selected Publications from our Lab:
  • Herrera-De La Mata et al. Cytotoxic CD4+ tissue-resident memory T cells and asthma severity. Med, 2023.
  • Seumois G et al. Single-cell transcriptomics of allergen-specific T cells in asthma. Sci Immunol, 2020.Minimum RequirementsEducation & Experience:
  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.Technical Skills:
